Tetris is a multifunctional social lounge located in the basement of a housing community in Ahmedabad, India; takes its name from its furniture which allows visitors to playfully rotate, move, and be configured in different ways- formal, casual, semi-formal seating arrangements.
Programmatically, this project is an adaptive reuse of a then neglected common basement next to an indoor pool area which was dark and dull. By breaking a wall to make the space bigger, we had to integrate two off center columns which eventually divided the space into larger formal and small informal seating with our intervention.
Columns are taken as a design element rather than considering them a hindrance while designing the modular system of the seating and surfaces around it.
A teal, red, blue colour palette used around the space on furniture stands out against the blank white walls adorned with multiple art prints. A fresh yellow colored wallpaper with prints of birds and flowers catches the eye with a counter that becomes a mini pantry and coffee bar along with a game table.
